Going Car-less For A Day Can Improve Your Time Management & Save Fuel!
When the price of gas is going higher and higher, apart from fully inflating our tires, carpooling, and not putting the pedal to the metal, what else can we do to save energy, while becoming more efficient with regard to our own time management?
Well, let me tell your about yesterday, which was Car-less Tuesday.
All of my work was done by phone and email, I used my own small assortment of exercise equipment instead of trekking to the “Y”, and my SUV stayed in the driveway.
Considering it was a scortcher outside, I saved more than a regular day’s worth of gas. I would have blasted the air conditioning, cutting my economy by at least a third, had I ventured out.
Today, when I got back out and onto the road, along with a passenger, I was more efficient than ever, planning my driving around various errands we had to do and appointments we needed to have, in and around the Los Angeles area.
Is there a way that you could “park” your car for one day in five, or at least one day in seven?
It would save you money, wear and tear on the car, on you, and it would make you a better time manager, probably on the day before going car-less, as well as on the day after.
Speaking of gas mileage, I’m somewhat surprised that folks who are driving tiny cars, all by themselves, are posturing as fuel economy heroes.
If there are two riders in that hulking SUV in the next lane, the Passenger Mile Per Gallon rating of that beast is probably 30 miles per gallon; fully 20% more efficient than the smaller vehicle with only one occupant.
Moreover, by ride sharing less space is taken up on freeways and surface streets, lessening congestion, and saving time for everybody.
Anyway, suffice it to say there are several ways to manage the clock and to economize, but let’s not forget the obvious one; parking that car of yours, large or small, for one day per week!
